Research has found consistent staffing problems in rural schools, including a persistent gap between the qualifications of teachers in rural and urban schools.
At the beginning of each school year, the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) administers the South Carolina (SC) Annual Educator Supply and Demand Survey to collect information on teachers entering the profession, those leaving their classrooms or the profession altogether, and positions that remain vacant.
