I always enjoy the updates from Arnold and the conversations that follow – always inspiring. This message seemed timely so I wanted to share.
As we move closer to the end of the school, we are beginning to plan for the first day of kindergarten that will be here before we know it! To celebrate this milestone, EdVenture Children’s Museum and its partners invite all South Carolina rising kindergartners and their families to join us as we host our annual Celebration of Countdown to Kindergarten on Friday, August 6.
Countdown to Kindergarten was developed by South Carolina First Steps in 2003 to help support strong school transitions by connecting rising kindergartners, families, and teachers in a series of one-on-one visits throughout the summer. The program has supported more than 17,000 children across the state. Laura Baker, communications coordinator at SC First Steps, will serve as their point person who will be supporting marketing and communications efforts.
EdVenture will team with SC First Steps to host the event designed to celebrate the program, the rising kindergartners and their families. The annual back-to-school event allows children and their families to visit the museum and the many partners who set up booths to engage our quests. The booths are staffed with a variety of our partners including local education advocates, health care providers, and vendors who answer questions about the big day. Vision and hearing screenings, as well as dental check-ups and haircuts, were among the activities in previous years. Of course, there will also be plenty of time to play throughout the museum. The event’s highlights have included opportunities to practice real-life kindergarten experiences, such as getting on and off and sitting on a school bus, going through a cafeteria lunch line, and playing in a mock kindergarten classroom. Please be on the lookout for vendor registration information from Sydney as we work together to create the best celebration ever.
I am sending this email to you, as district leaders, in hopes that you encourage your teams to join with us in celebrating South Carolina’s rising kindergartners by hosting your own events that day – making this a true, statewide event. I am also encouraging informal entities including children’s museums, libraries, faith-based organizations, and other child-centric organizations to find ways to make this milestone special for the children and their families. This would be a great way to show our communities just how much our state values collaboration and the importance of getting young children ready for kindergarten.
If you or members of your team decide to host an event on Friday, August 6, as part of this statewide celebration, please let Laura know by email (email@example.com). SC First Steps will be creating a webpage with a list of organizations and locations to show the Palmetto State’s steadfast support of its children. We will have customizable marketing and promotional materials that can be shared at your event.
Together, we can send a message of what we value most. Here’s to making a difference in the lives of children and their families.
